The Whole30 is big. It’s everywhere. You hear about it right and left. I have finally delved in to learn more about it and see what it’s all about. I love any endeavor that’s about health and wellness, and that has individuals thinking about what they put in their bodies in a deliberate, intentional way. I commend them for getting people to think about their health, and the food options available to us all. But. We at Little Green are not the Whole30. Here is why.
We are smaller. More intimate. We will talk to you!
At Little Green, you can email me whenever you want. You can chat on the group chat with other people, who have started cleansing on the same day as you. We are more concierge–if you ask to hear about a particular thing, I will write about that thing. We email you every day. We are your cheer leading team!
We promote plant-forward. For your health, and for the environment.
We believe that reducing your meat intake is one of the key pieces to your health, and to the health of the environment. We are not paleo. We do not allow land meat. We let you have occasional fish or eggs if you need that boost of protein, but mostly, you are eating plants: vegetables, fruits, legumes, seeds, nuts.
For your health: “There is a compelling case that animal proteins – independent of other associated nutrients – increase the risk for cancer, atherosclerosis, osteoporosis and type 2 diabetes… This was particularly evident in the China Study – one of the largest and most comprehensive studies ever undertaken to examine the relationship between diet and disease. Huge differences were seen in disease rates based on the amount of plant foods participants ate compared to animal foods (Campbellet al., 1993; Campbell and Junshi, 1994; Campbell and Campbell, 2005).” -Amanda Woodvine
For the environment: Did you know that 23% of America’s water goes towards livestock production and 14.5% of all our greenhouse gasses are produced by livestock? The production of one calorie of animal protein requires more than ten times the fossil fuel input as a calorie of plant protein.
We are shorter. 10 days, or 7 or 5. We fit into your community and your life.
We are not asking you for a month. You may decide to continue these practices forever, but we are asking you for ten days, or seven. Cleansing your body of inflammatory foods and meat for that length of time will give your body and your cells a chance to reset and focus on healing, instead of its normal practice of digesting and detoxifying. We encourage you to bring your friends and family into the experience with you, to try eating out while staying within the guidelines. This is not meant to be isolationist, it is about community, and it’s not disruptive for weeks on end. Share in the community of Little Green while you cleanse, and within the framework of your family and friends while you cleanse.
We are not a diet.
You may want to lose weight on a Little Green Cleanse, and you probably will. But that is not what we are about. We aren’t calorie counting. We aren’t wanting you to be hungry. We want you to be healthy. And to learn more about YOUR bio-individuality. What works for you. What gives you energy. What makes YOU feel good. How to help you live the best version of your own life.
