We know Friday nights (or any night for that matter) can be difficult without a cocktail, but if you have a delicious sexy mocktail recipe on hand, you are all set. We have a bunch of mocktail options under the drink section on our website, but we are loving the Blood Orange Spritz right now.
I think we love the cocktail hour because it’s a transition from work-time to you-time. You can continue to make that transition time special special without alcohol with intention. Make it special. Turn it into a thing.
My go-to alcohol-free drink is fizzy water with cranberry (unsweetened) with a lime and a big ice cube. You can check-out Little Green’s drink section for other mocktails, or invent your own un-sweetened, un-alcoholic drink! If you’re headed out to a party, and its Dry January or you just want a break from alcohol, you can bring a thermos filled with your awesome drink. Just make sure to pour it into a pretty glass before you drink it, and add a garnish!
Or…you can try our delicious sexy mocktail The Blood Orange Spritz! Oranges, as most of us learned growing up, are an excellent source of vitamin C, which helps the body form and maintain connective tissue, including bones, blood vessels, and skin. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which bolsters immunity and also helps fight free radical cell growth. Oranges are also a good source of fiber, B vitamins, potassium, and folic acid.
Healthy Appetizers for Your Mocktail Hour!
If you’re looking for healthy appetizers, the options are endless….olives, kale chips, crudité with a delicious dip, spiced pecans, mini-cut energy bars, little tapas using veggies and herbs. Take a look at our Bites page for more options.
Alcohol and Menopause?
Yes, there is sadly a connection between alcohol and hot flashes. If you want to learn more about how alcohol triggers hot flashes or a poor night’s sleep during perimenopause, we encourage you to learn more at Sage+Sisters : Food, Herbs, and Attitude for Menopause.
- 6 blood oranges (you need 8 oz)
- 1/4 tsp. Vanilla extract
- 1 Tbsp. runny honey
- 4 oz Sparkling water lime or plain
- 1 lime (sliced, for garnish)
- Squeeze blood oranges into a mason jar (with a lid) and add the honey and vanilla. Shake. Keep in fridge until ready to serve.
- Then, over ice, pour the orange mixture into glasses, top with the sparkling water, and garnish with a lime. Use plain seltzer for a creamsicle taste, and lime selzer for an edgier taste–both options are amazing!
